This week, we had a bit of a struggle with what we should get done and what we should plan to get done for the week since only two out of four people were there for our first group meeting. However, we did start discussing possible ideas for a project that either or both of us could relate to. One of them was the idea of the bias relating to interracial relationships. This would be very interesting in today’s political climate, and we would probably be able to get some good video footage of interviews of people.
Another idea that I would be able to personally contribute to would be bias with being involved in music and especially music and teaching in conjunction. Many of my friends are music education majors, and currently hold positions teaching or student teaching at local schools. There are multiple possible avenues to take with this, from the stereotypes and bias centered around the necessity of music programs in schools to the bias centered around teaching as a profession in general.
The final idea we came up with was related to stigmas surrounding certain college majors. Mostly, this topic has to do with arts-related majors that commonly get the question “how are you going to make money?” This would be very easy, as it’s a very common occurrence for a big group of people who would be very willing to talk about the unfairness of it.
The main challenge for this week was figuring out any part of our team contract with half of our group gone, but we did start to generate some great ideas and figure out some of how we’d like to go about implementing them, so I’m sure drafting up a team contract won’t take long for us to finish.
